Salt River First Nation has elected Toni Heron to again lead the small First Nation that sits on the the southernmost tip of the Northwest Territories.
In the election Thursday, 185 people voted for Heron as chief while 136 voted for competitor Frieda Martselos.
Heron previously served as chief in a term a saddled with conflict, including months of suspensions that the court later stayed.
Six councillors were elected after a one-vote difference for the last spot led to a recount: Brittany Bourke, Delores Bruno Taylor, Henry Beaver, Carmen Wanderingspirit Marten, Archie Beaulieu and Levi MacDonald.
A majority of voters also backed new membership laws in a referendum — 145 voted yes, 72 voted no.
