Tyler McGregor scored a hat trick as Canada opened the 2025 Para Cup with a 7-0 win over China on Sunday in Dawson Creek, B.C.

Liam Hickey added two goals, including one short-handed, while Dominic Cozzolino and Micah Kovacevich also scored for Canada.

"I thought our start to the game was phenomenal. We got involved physically early on and jumped out to an early lead," McGregor said. "It is hard to complain about getting two short-handed goals in the first period, but we were able to continue our success from there."

Corbin Watson made nine saves to secure a shutout at Ovintiv Events Centre. He became the first goalie to play 100 games for Canada's national Para hockey team.

"It means a lot to me to be able to be around this team and the entire program for so long," Watson said. "It is a monumental achievement for me."

The United States beat Czech Republic 3-1 later Sunday in the four-team tournament. Canada next plays the Czechs on Monday at 1 p.m. ET.
