When I started looking into getting an ESA letter, I didn’t realize how many sites exist that either overpromise or don’t clearly follow Fair Housing Act rules. I spent a few days just reading FHA guidance and landlord requirements before choosing anything.
I ended up going with RealESALetter.com mainly because their process actually matched what the FHA describes: a real mental health evaluation by a licensed provider, not a certificate or instant download. That alone ruled out a lot of other options I looked at.
What surprised me was that approval wasn’t treated as a given. The evaluation felt intentional, and the communication explained what an ESA letter can and can’t be used for, which made it feel more credible.
After receiving the letter, I submitted it to my housing provider and didn’t hear anything back—which, in this case, was a good thing. No disputes, no extra verification requests.
I’m not saying it’s the only option out there, but if you care about doing things correctly and avoiding future issues with housing, this approach made sense to me.
Just sharing in case anyone else is doing the same kind of research.
