U4GM Expert View on POE 3.29 Crafting

POE 3.29 launched on July 24, 2026, at 1:00 PM PDT, opening Curse of the Allflame with a short gap after the previous league ended on July 20. The release date matters because this league changes how you plan maps, gear, companions, and Atlas progress, so having enough POE currency for early crafting can make the first few sessions much smoother.

What changed in POE 3.29?

Curse of the Allflame is built around connected decisions rather than one isolated league mechanic. Charts lead into Voyages, Mercenary encounters affect character planning, Atlas Anomalies reward map investment, and the socket overhaul changes how you prepare equipment.

That gives the league a different pace from a season focused only on clearing faster. You still need a reliable build, but your route through the Atlas now has more weight. The best rewards often come from choosing a direction early and refining it as your character develops.

How do Charts and Voyages work?

Charts provide access to the league's expedition content, and completing a sequence of nine Charts opens a Voyage. Each Voyage has its own board, modifiers, and reward direction, so the sequence is more than a string of disconnected encounters.

The real decision comes before the fight. You need to judge which route suits your build, how much danger you can accept, and whether the reward path supports your current goals. Allflame crafting adds another layer by tying progression to access items and targeted choices.

For mapping-focused players, this creates a useful second track alongside normal Atlas completion. You can still run regular maps for gear and objectives, but Charts give your session a clearer purpose when you want something beyond another standard map.

Are Mercenaries worth using in POE 3.29?

Mercenaries bring combat abilities, equipment, affiliations, and rewards into the same encounter. That makes them more interesting than simple temporary helpers. You have to decide if the encounter fits your build, what reward matters, and how the result affects your wider progression.

The Luminary Scion Ascendancy goes further by allowing one Mercenary to be hired permanently. That turns a companion into part of the character setup, with Link skills, defensive sharing, aura value, equipment, and survivability all becoming relevant.

The system works best when the Mercenary supports your main plan instead of demanding constant attention. A strong companion can cover a defensive gap or add utility, but your own damage, defenses, and gear still define the character.

How do sockets work after the POE 3.29 overhaul?

Gems can now be placed in equipment sockets regardless of socket colour. Matching a gem to a socket of the same colour grants additional quality, while white sockets provide the flexibility to use any gem without treating colour as a hard requirement.

This makes experimentation much less punishing. You can test a new setup without rebuilding the entire item first, then improve the finished version by planning colour matches on important active gems and supports.

What are Atlas Anomalies?

Atlas Anomalies can appear after completing a map influenced by the appropriate corner Voidstone. Opening the Atlas again may reveal a one-use special area, and the completed map's item quantity improves the chance of finding one.

The reward themes vary by region, including unique-item offers, mirrored jewellery choices, gardens, compact expedition areas, special heists, and sacrifice-based encounters. This gives Atlas placement a stronger purpose without replacing ordinary mapping.

Start POE 3.29 with a stable character, learn the socket rules before spending heavily, and choose Atlas investments that match your build instead of chasing every system at once. Then refine your gear, test the Mercenary options, and use cheap POE orbs only when they support a clear upgrade path.
