Bihar: Doctor watches youtube tutorials and operates surgery, child dies

In a shocking incident from Chhapra, Bihar, a 15-year-old boy tragically died after a doctor allegedly performed a stone operation by following a YouTube video. This incident underscores the dangers of misusing technology, despite its immense educational benefits.

According to the boy’s family, he was admitted to a nursing home after complaining of stomach pain. Shockingly, the doctor allegedly performed the surgery while watching a YouTube video on his mobile phone. As the boy’s condition worsened post-operation, he was rushed to Patna for further treatment, but unfortunately, he passed away en route. The family reported that the doctor repeatedly referred to the video during the operation, making serious errors that ultimately led to the boy’s death. Following this, the doctor and staff of the illegally operated nursing home went into hiding, sparking demands for strict legal action.

While platforms like YouTube provide valuable educational content, they cannot replace professional medical training, and performing surgeries without proper qualifications is a legal offense. This incident is a glaring example of medical negligence, a problem not only in Chhapra but across the country, where unlicensed practitioners endanger patients' lives. It calls for immediate action from both the government and the health department to prevent such tragedies.

Outraged by the incident, the boy’s family arrived at the scene with his body, creating a public uproar. The Gadkha police arrived, took custody of the body, completed the necessary formalities, and sent it to Chapra Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. Afterward, the grieving family conducted the cremation at the village's riverbank.
