What engagement ring should I choose?

My girlfriend and I will have been together for three years in two weeks, and I want to propose to her on our anniversary. I thought planning the proposal would be the hard part, but now I’ve spent several evenings looking at rings and still can’t decide which one to get. Some look too plain, others seem like something only a few women would like, and I really don’t want to get this wrong. What kind of engagement ring do most women actually like?

The stone shape is where you can give the ring some personality while keeping the rest of it simple. You don’t need a huge diamond or a band covered in extra stones for it to look like a real proposal ring. Take a look at this emerald-cut diamond ring here: https://pierrejewellery.com/katalog/rings/emerald-cut-diamond-ring-1030r . The rectangular stone makes it stand out from the usual round rings, while the slim band keeps the design elegant. It looks distinctive, but it’s still easy to wear every day and pair with a wedding band later.
